You do not need to be a film photographer to attend.  We will discuss my methods of shooting both film and digital and I will instruct on film but other than the  medium I shoot, everything taught can be for both Film and Digital shooters.

Over the past 2 years, I have made the transition of adding film shooting into my business. Why film, you ask? Isn't that 'old school'? Well, maybe to some, but shooting film saved me. I was ready to quit. I was frustrated with not achieving the look that I wanted for my photography. I wanted more, so I changed. I am now a hybrid photographer, which simply means that I shoot both film and digital. I have adjusted my business to accommodate both film and digital, because I feel that there is a time and place for both mediums. I now shoot all portrait sessions on film. During the wedding day, I shoot details and formals exclusively on film, and when the light allows me, I shoot the wedding party, getting ready and some ceremony and reception on film, as well. I mix both digital and film into the day to achieve the look that I am going for.  Film is not for everyone, but even if you do not want to incorporate it into your business, you should learn how to shoot film for yourself. It truly makes you a better photographer. Shooting film forces you to slow down - to think before you shoot, and improve your connection with your clients. It is truly magical – there is no other way to explain it.

This workshop is all about being a hybrid wedding photographer. Of course, you do not need to be a film photographer to attend, because much of what I teach goes with both mediums. The reason that I call this a hybrid workshop is because this workshop is all about my wedding business, and I am a hybrid wedding photographer. Whether you are a hybrid photographer or not, I will teach you the ins and outs of shooting film. The reason that many photographers shy away from shooting film is because they believe that they cannot do it, or that they do not have the time to learn, like I did at first. The truth is that it is not as difficult as it seems. It just takes some training, practice and a willingness to learn. I will school you on the film stocks, the metering, how to shoot for your look, pricing and workflow. We will have a completely styled shoot at the renowned Cedarwood Weddings in Nashville, where I will teach posing and finding the light. I will go over how I light my receptions and how I make the decision when to use film or digital. I will teach you how I match my digital to my film scans when editing.  Of course, we will also focus on running a successful business, including branding, marketing, social media, timelines, posing, client relations, workflows and much more.  If I do it, I share it - nothing is held back. I’m an open book.

This workshop covers a span of 3 days & 2 nights. Lodging (Everyone has their own bed but it is one big bedroom in our Workshop Cottage so ladies only) and meals are included during the hours of the workshop. The workshop will begin at 2pm on Day 1, giving you time to fly/drive in, and will end at around 1pm on Day 3, giving you time to fly/drive back home on that day.

Many of the same things apply that I will be teaching and you will still learn. I encourage you rent and try out a film camera, you might just be swayed. :)
